Ramadan 2020
The issue with achieving prosperity and recognition is that you begin to believe yourself invincible. Many a people have come before us in every corner of this beautiful earth, who believed the heights they achieved were insurmountable. Only to be proven wrong. We don’t run this set up—there is a higher power running the show, of which we are mere speck-sized puppets. But once in a while, we all fool ourselves into believing that we are in control.
I live in Mirdif, Dubai. It is very close to the airport. It prides itself with being the busiest airport in the world. Yay! Lucky us! Most nights we cannot differentiate between the far off aeroplanes and the stars. In fact the light of the stars is overshadowed by the overwhelmingly lustrous ones of the planes. But tonight, subhanAllah, on the 21st night of Ramadan, the first odd night, in the middle of a global pandemic which has shut down almost everything—especially air travel—the sky is serene. The stars proudly and ostentatiously lit up the sky that is rightfully theirs to light up. The occasional aeroplane was easily singled out as the foreigner. In a month which is usually hot, a beautiful February-like breeze filled up the air. SubhanAllah, this is the might of my Lord. He has shown the human race Who is truly in charge!
